Main tasks and responsibilities

Workshop Duties 

  • Carry out electrical and mechanical fault finding and emergency corrective repairs on Straddle Carriers, Reach Stackers, Forklift trucks, Quay cranes and ancillary equipment.
  • Carry out fault finding and general repair work on Straddle Carriers, Reach Stackers, Forklift trucks, Quay cranes and ancillary equipment.
  • Carry out PM servicing as required in compliance with PM schedules provided
  • Ensure all repair and service work is carried out in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with company OHS&E regulations.

Cleanliness

  • Ensure the working area is kept in a clean and tidy condition
  • Ensure that tools and equipment supplied by the company are kept clean and in good condition

Administration 

  • Complete all relevant paperwork accurately and in a timely manner Other 
  • Represent the company in a professional manner to meet the client’s expectations 
  • Other tasks as directed by Site Supervisor 

What you’ll need to succeed

Qualifications:

  • Australian/Recognized Electrical/Mechanical Trade Qualification (Year 10 preferred)
    Forklift & Elevated Work Platform Licenses

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of port crane mechanical/electrical control systems (Siemens S7 PLC, CITECT, AC/DC drives, crane management software).
  • Proficient in electrical schematics/symbols, AC/DC motors/drives, PLC systems, troubleshooting, and limit setting.
  • Experience operating mechanical boom/cable equipment for troubleshooting and repair evaluation.

Experience:

  • 10+ years post-apprenticeship experience in fault finding, repair, and PM service of heavy plant (e.g., earthmoving, forklifts, container handling, mining, marine, generators, electric forklifts).

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics, electronics, and/or diesel engines.
  • Basic/Intermediate Microsoft Windows/DOS skills.
  • Customer relationship, analytical, numeracy, and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of mechanical handling/port/industrial operations.

Other:

  • Ability to lift heavy objects (OH&S guidelines).
  • Able to work at heights.
  • Good general physical condition.
  • Willingness to undertake other duties and participate in training.
  • Team player with a strong work ethic and cultural sensitivity.
