As a QEHS Advisor, Southern Region, you’ll be responsible for the formulation, upkeep, and daily administration of our Quality, Environment, Health, and Safety (QEHS) management system and operational protocols. Your primary objective is to spearhead QEHS management across multiple Kalmar Australian State operations, including Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania. Additionally, you'll support our New Zealand operations by offering technical knowledge and guidance to management teams and employees, while actively participating in the coordination of daily QEHS management activities.
What are your key responsibilities:

QEHS Management System: Develop, implement, maintain, and monitor the Oceania QEHS management system. Maintain surveillance of country QEHS legislative and statutory frameworks to ensure ongoing compliance, acting as required to address gaps.

Operational QEHS Support: Provide advice and support across all levels of the organization to ensure that Kalmar QEHS policies and procedures are understood and applied consistently. Actively participate in QEHS activities as a subject matter expert providing information and guidance to business leaders, workers, and customers.

Safety & Hazard Control: Assist management in providing workers with the safest possible environment (i.e., worksite hazard assessments, Take 5, safety walks) and actively participate in developing a culture of safety amongst staff. Conduct worksite inspections, audits, prepare, and communicate reports identifying potential hazards and areas of continuous improvement. Maintain an up-to-date risk register and hazardous substance registers.

Incident and Injury Management: Monitor all reported incidents. Coordinate the use of a central management data system (Quentic) for event notification and reporting. Coordinate all investigations for all Category 2 and if required 3 incidents. Manage worker injury and compensation claims and develop effective return to work programs for injured employees.

Training & Development: Coordinate delivery of QEHS induction training and refreshers. Assist in developing the QEHS training and development plan. Coordinate and monitor online training provided through a third party.

Team Contribution: Participate and add value to Kalmar Global QEHS services team and Oceania QEHS team activities in a way that shares knowledge and expertise.

What you bring to the role:

Qualifications: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety and a current Australian State or Territory motor vehicle licence are essential.

Core Experience: Several years of experience operating within a QEHS or Safety role in high-risk environments.

Technical Expertise: Sound knowledge and practical exposure to relevant ANZ QEHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and standards is a must.

Incident & Injury Management: Proven experience in conducting incident investigation and managing worker injury and compensation claims.

Strategic Capability: Ability to design and implement policies and plans in a Global business context, demonstrating strong business administration and effective time management skills.

Key Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and sound communication skills (written and verbal), coupled with strong negotiation and influencing abilities, and the capacity to work within a global, multi-cultural team.
