Development Engineer, Mechanics

We’re looking for a Development Engineer, Mechanics to join our Terminal Tractor New Product Development team in Ottawa, KS. In this pivotal role, you’ll play a crucial part in enhancing our product portfolio to meet customer needs while shaping the heavy material handling industry and driving sustainability for our customers.

Purpose of Position:
Develop and support mechanical systems for current and future projects. Demonstrate a broad understanding of systems and system-interactions for both diesel and electric powered Kalmar terminal tractors. Design subsystems to meet global customer needs, legislation and internal requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
• Define specifications for mechanical components and subsystems.
• Help ensure that components and systems meet specified technical customer demands, product safety, legislative requirements and internal demands for Terminal Tractor products (TT).
• Perform activities according to specified requirements and time schedules.
• Contribute toward cooperation between product development, sourcing, and operations.
• According to customer demands, choose design solutions, materials, and components.
• Define component verification and validation test requirements
• Coordinate work with internal and external engineers
• In consultation with the responsible Product Development Manager, purchase components for tests and evaluations.
• In consultation with the responsible Product Development Manager, perform customer and supplier visits.
• Initiate and order testing for verification and evaluation of a design.
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
Education
• Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience
• Theoretical and applied knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic structural, or powertrain systems related to mobile equipment
• 3 + years mechanical engineering experience
Competencies
• 3D CAD systems, CATIA V5 experience preferred
• Strong aptitude toward mechanical design
• Driving force and results oriented
• Good communication skills
• Fluent in English both in speaking and writing
• Will be required to work closely with other TT RDE personnel, Project Managers, Sourcing & Production groups worldwide
Other information
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally will be required
