Industrial Engineer Intern

Purpose of the position

Based in Ottawa, KS, this summer Internship position reports to the Production Engineering

Supervisor. Our Interns gain experience in designing, developing, testing, and evaluating

integrated systems for managing industrial production processes including human work factors,

quality control, inventory control, logistics and material flow, cost analysis, and production

coordination.

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

 

  • Analyzes work force utilization, facility layout, and operational data, such as production costs,process flow charts, and production schedules, to determine efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
  • Recommends methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities, such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing work flow, relocating work stations and equipment, and purchase of equipment through lean processes and assists with implementation of changes.
  • Coordinate quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
  • Using drafting and modeling tools available, design layouts of equipment, materials, and/or workspaces to illustrate maximum efficiency. Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
  • Plan and establish sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization.

What you’ll need to succeed

 

Education:

 

College student (Junior or higher) majoring in Industrial Engineer preferred

 

Competencies:

 

Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, production floor layout and design, time studies

Preferably some previous work/classroom experience in similar tasks

Detailed orientated good problem solvers

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
