Purpose of the position

 

Support the RDE (Research & Development Engineering) team by driving vehicle prototypes, coordinating driving schedules with the Project team, and supporting additional testing support for RDE and to assist with other tasks as needed. Support the RDE (Research & Development Engineering) team by performing test and validation activities.  This includes driving vehicle prototypes, coordinating driving schedules with the Project team, performing test procedures, and assisting with the installation of test parts and equipment.

 

 

What are your key responsibilities:

 

  • Drive loaded and unloaded truck prototypes around a designated test track, truck lots, and designated publicroads.
  • Hook and unhook an empty or loaded trailer to the prototypes.
  • Perform a pre-trip checklist before driving the prototypes.
  • Communicate with other identified Kalmar personnel when the truck is in use.
  • Perform testing activities according to specified requirements and time schedules delivered electronically.
  • Collaborate with Engineering personnel to ensure the truck is available when needed for testing,commissioning, etc..
  • Observe and provide written feedback about any issues or problems with the systems being tested to Engineering personnel.
  • Ensure the safety of themselves and other persons while operating any Kalmar equipment.
  • Oversee test benches as instructed by the Test and Validation Engineers and collect data as required.
  • Check in and out any contractors as needed for the project.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • The employee will be responsible for following safety measures, the code of conduct, and performingemergency response measures if necessary.

What you bring to the role:

 

  • Valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Required
  • Previous experience driving terminal tractors or tractor with attached trailer preferred · Ability to drive a terminal tractor.
  • Ability to hook and unhook a trailer.
  • Current DOT Med Card.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Fluent in English both in speaking and writing.

 

Other Information:

  • This is a second shift role, mid-afternoon to evening.
  • This is a Full time position with 40 hours of work per week. Overtime up to 10 additional hours per week maybe available depending on project needs.
  • The driver will be required to wear PPE while on site.
  • Must have good vision and hearing or the ability to correct it with aides.
  • Must check in and out of each shift.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or prototype shop not required but preferred
