Field Service Technician

Making every move count

  • Executes service on Kalmar and 3rd party equipment at the customer site or in Kalmar premises
  • Knows the customers’ Installed base 
  • Responsible for: safety, service execution on quality and on time, professional interaction with customers, service report, work time report, sales leads
  • Accountable for: Customer satisfaction, quality workmanship and first time fixes
  • As per work agreement: weekend work (stand-by), shift work, overtime, remote travel

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair the latest cargo handling heavy equipment at customer facilities or Kalmar premises, including: Planned maintenance, Conducting repairs on breakdown, Fault finding, Contributing to effective OH&S practices
  • Actively builds good customer relationships by professional behaviour and customer-minded interaction
  • Actively builds profitable Kalmar service business in the country by well planning work days and providing service at high quality and on time to customers
  • Prepares well for service jobs: service history, parts, customer address and contact, onsite on time etc.
  • Executes daily service jobs, properly signing in and out at the customer’s site, securing the equipment for: repairs, preventive maintenance, warranty, inspections, refurbishments etc.
  • Leaves the customer site having cleaned the workplace, reviewed the work done with the customer, checked for additional service opportunities, service report sent and properly signing out with the customer contact
  • Report any unsafe equipment (Service vehicle, Tooling, Equipment etc.) to the relevant manager
  • Continuously learns about new Kalmar equipment
  • Reports service work (during the day, at the end of each job)
  • Reports work time (daily)
  • Provides sales leads on to relevant parties and other opportunities at the customer site
  • Keeps van stock up to date and accounted for
  • Keeps service vehicle clean and presentable at all times, vehicle services to be kept up to date
  • Company provided tooling to be secured, maintained and accounted for.
  • Close cooperation with customer service contacts, spare parts division etc.
  • Other duties as requested by your manager

What you’ll need to succeed

Education

  • Mechanical or Electrical trade qualification e.g. diesel mechanic, mobile plant fitter, commercial marine mechanic, auto electrician, electrical fitter, industrial electrician
  • Minimum year 10 high school
  • Ability to participate in training on and off the job with above average ability to learn and apply new skills.

Experience

  • Ability to fault find unsupervised
  • Ability to test & understand hydraulic & electrical circuits/diagrams
  • Ability to strip & rebuild mechanical components e.g. differential
  • Experience using email and ICT
  • Industrial/commercial heavy equipment background
  • ECU / PLC experience / exposure advantageous
  • Ability to plan efficient service execution
