Supplier Development Engineer

As a Supplier Development Engineer (SDE), you will play a key role in developing and improving Kalmar’s supplier network — with a primary focus on steel components and related manufacturing processes. You will work closely with suppliers across Poland and Europe to drive quality, capacity, and sustainability improvements in line with Kalmar’s sourcing strategy.
You’ll report directly to Paweł Przygocki, Supplier Development Manager, and work as part of the Central Sourcing team at Kalmar Stargard.

What are your key responsibilities:
Main tasks and responsibilities

Lead supplier development activities from pre-production through SOP.

Conduct supplier qualification and risk assessments following Kalmar’s Supplier Approval and Risk Management processes.

Drive continuous improvement of supplier quality and delivery performance aligned with Category Strategy.

Manage part and process assurance to support new product development and production targets.

Facilitate supplier escalation decisions and implement recovery plans when needed.

Conduct audits and improvement projects to enhance underperforming suppliers.

Support suppliers and internal teams in Lean / Six Sigma workshops to improve quality, capacity, and cost efficiency.

Promote proactive improvement initiatives with suppliers focusing on quality, capability, and capacity growth.

What you bring to the role:
Education:
-
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical, Quality, Process, or Production Engineering.
-
MBA or equivalent experience is a plus.
Experience:
-
Minimum 5 years in Supplier Development, Supplier Quality, or Supply Chain within a manufacturing environment.

Proven experience with steel manufacturing and welding processes, ideally in light or medium steel fabrication.

Familiarity with other manufacturing processes such as hydraulics, cylinders, or casting.

Experience leading NPD/NPI projects from the SDE perspective.

Strong auditing skills and experience in supplier onboarding or continuous improvement initiatives.

Fluent in English, with strong communication skills across different cultures and technical environments.
Competencies:

Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 3834-2 standards.

Experience with APQP/PPAP or similar Supplier Quality Assurance methods.

Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.

Hands-on approach to supplier improvement and change management.

Proficiency in Google Workspace and project management tools.
