We are looking for a talented and experienced (Mechanical) Design Engineer to join our team at Kalmar Horizontal Engineering. Kalmar is a world leader in providing innovative, sustainable and efficient cargo handling solutions. Our horizontal engineering team is responsible for the design and development of automated and manual straddle carriers, charging solutions and automation infrastructure for these machines.
In this role, you will be responsible for the design of mechanical components and systems for our straddle carriers and charging solutions. You will work closely with other engineers on the team to develop and implement new design solutions. You will also be responsible for ensuring that our products meet all relevant safety and regulatory requirements.
As an engineering team member you will get familiar with high tech heavy duty transportation equipment, including automated and manually operated Straddle and Shuttle Carriers. The Straddles are equipped with the latest power unit technology; diesel-electric, hybrid and fully electric driveline. We offer you a position in our Tampere based engineering team which works closely with Poland located engineering team and production, you will have a great team to support your growth professionally. Your role can be fine tuned based on your current skills and interests.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, structures and systems for horizontal products in customer delivery projects
- Supportive tasks in R&D projects
- Work closely with other engineers on the team to develop and implement new design solutions
- Ensure that products meet all relevant safety and regulatory requirements
- Participate in the design review process
- Work with suppliers to ensure the quality of manufactured components
- Provide technical support to the manufacturing and assembly teams plus for other relevant stakeholders
- Keep up to date with the latest technologies and trends in mechanical engineering.
What you’ll need to succeed
Education:
- B. Sc. or M. Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience
- Engineering knowledge and experience
- At least 3 years of working experience in relevant field.
- Design software experience, CATIA V5 knowledge is an advantage
- Expertise at least in some of the following fields:
- Heavy welded steel structures
- Walkways (in cranes or in mobile equipment)
- Mobile equipment engineering (power units/diesel or hybrid engines, hydraulics, cabins, brakes and steering, HVAC systems etc.)
Competencies:
- Strong communication in English
- Self-driven working style
- Good communication skills and team player-attitude
- Can-do attitude
- Enthusiasm towards new technologies is a plus.
